Huachuma / Wachuma / San Pedro Ceremonies at Lake Atitlán

Huachuma Hike - Wachuma Ceremony Flow

We will begin drinking the first cup and open the ceremony in our temple Jaguar Hall. We will open the space with prayers, intentions and songs, followed by a short movement exercise to bring awareness to our bodies and energy flow. We will then begin our hike, which has 3 pit-stops along the way.

There is about 2hrs total of hiking, and we will hang out in each pitstop for about 1-3hrs each.

Our first pitstop is Grandfather Rock, an ancient Mayan altar with 1000s of years history being used as a sacred site for prayers, offerings and connection to the Spirit Realm. We will connect with the Earth, leave offerings, pray, sing Earth songs, and make a flower mandala together.

Then we hike up to the 2nd altar.

Our second pitstop is deep in the forest at an ancient Mayan water altar. In this space we will sing water songs, have a special water blessing ritual, honor the divine feminine, and drink our second cup of medicine.

Then we will hike up to our third altar.

Our third pitstop, Base Camp, will be at the top of the mountain with a spectacular view of the lake and open skies. Here we will connect with the air element, sing air songs, make prayers, and chill out and meditate in silence. We will also serve the sacred medicine of Rapeh, which will bring grounding and clarity. We will sing songs from the Brazilian Amazon to help move the force of the medicine. After about an hour, we will then head back down the mountain and return to MYF!

There will be a short period of freeflow, with fruits available, option to swim in the lake, connect with the family, or be in your own space. This will be for about an hour.

Our final destination will be our Sacred Fire where we will anchor in our prayers, sing more songs, and connect with the fire element. There will be loads of offerings available throughout the night for you to pray for your life, your family, your business and continue to anchor in your intentions!

The ceremony will then close, soup will be available, sauna will be hot, and fire will stay open for prayers, and more songs!

Wachuma Fire Prayer - Huachuma Ceremony Flow

We will be all night around our Sacred Fire, praying, singing, dancing, and connecting with the elements. The medicine will give us plenty of energy to stay up all night, and WOW, the sunrise will be the most magical moment of our lives!

The night is divided into 4 rounds from sunset-sunrise.

Each round will be based on an element.

We start with Earth connecting to our bodies and the physical world. Then move into water to connect with our emotions, the gift of life, and the divine feminine. Then moving into the air element where we connect to our Mind, our vision, our meditation and our vastness. Then we move into Fire to welcome the rising sun. This is when we connect with our Spirit, our purpose and our passions and celebrate the sweet life we live.

Throughout the night there will be certain songs to connect with each element, lots of space for others to share songs, fun guided activities, places of silence and stillness, sound healing, and more. An abundance of offerings are available throughout the night to make lots of prayers and give thanks!

We will end at sunrise with fruit, snacks, soup and a glorious lake swim and dock party!

About the Facilitators

Jahendo & Sunny have been holding space in 100s of ceremonies together for the last 3 years. Their deep friendship and love for each other vibrates out into any healing space they’re in.

Jahendo

Jahendo is the owner of the Mystical Yoga Farm and hosts ceremonies there regularly. He has been working at MYF since 2015, learning and sharing his skills.

He is a professional medicine music and carries many heart songs, medicine songs, indigenous songs from the jungle, and icaros.

He loves choosing songs based on the way that they move energy and the healing force they carry.

He has been serving Jurema (xanga) for over 10 years, and serving huachuma / wachuma for just over 7 years. And now is serving Ayahuasca for the past 1+ years, with permission of his Huni Kuin teachers.

He continues to deepen his work and do his own healing by sitting with shamans and medicine carriers all over the world, and does a yearly pilgrimage in Peru. He’s worked deeply with a number of traditions including Shipibo, Huni Kuin, Marakame (Huichol), Quechua, and many more. He incorporates a lot of these healing modalities into a well-rounded service to the divine.

He has assisted in many Ayahuasca ceremonies, as well as Huachuma, Peyote and others, and believes it is a divine service to work with these medicines and work with their original carriers.

He is a 500hr E-RYT yoga teacher and has studied and helped in over 10 shamanic yoga teacher trainings. He loves infusing yoga philosophy into the ceremonial works.

His biggest passion is bringing joy and lightness, as well as focus and sacredness into his offerings. He provides a very safe, held and loving healing space for transformation!

Sunny

Sunny is the Heart Keeper and Manager of the Mystical Yoga Farm. She has been working at the MYF since 2018.

She is filled with the pure spirit of the hummingbird, of joy, love, connection and play.

She is a gentle yet powerful space holder, by active listening, being fully present, sharing heart opening music, and teaching playful yoga.

She first started working with plant medicines 6 years ago.

She says, “In my first Huachuma ceremony I found a deep connection with my true essence and the elements around me, it opened my voice, heart, mind and spirit.”

Since this experience Sunny has been sitting in different medicine ceremonies with indigenous tribes and people who have directly worked with the original medicine carriers.

Sunny has been assisting in Hucahuma, Xanga, and Ayahuasca ceremonies for three years.

In these ceremonies Sunny holds a motherly/sisterly/angelic presence, a safe space for those to be held and nurtured if they need that support.

She uses music and her voice to help the medicine move through our bodies.

She is available for 1-on-1 support, limpias, a hand to hold, and a bright light to look at when feeling lost in the dark.

San Pedro / Wachuma / Huachuma Ceremonies

Huachuma, also spelt Wachuma is the spirit of the San Pedro cactus, is seen as the Grandfather medicine of the Andes of South America. His active alkaloid is Mescaline, which is NOT a tryptamine. It’s in the same family as Cacao and MDMA, with similar heart opening benefits, with its own unique subtle energy. In large doses can be psychedelic & visionary, though those aren’t its primary affects. The effects can last anywhere from 8-16 hours depending on dosage. You will have the choice of how much medicine you’d like to drink.

The main effects of Huachuma / Wachuma are heart-opening, deepened state of awareness, profound spiritual connection to Mother Nature and deep communion with Spirit. He offers us a deep focus, stillness of the mind, focus. He opens us up to our Prayer, what we want to create in this life, our purpose, our patterns, and how we can become a better person! The most magical effects are that of Clarity of Vision, and revealing our Truest Self and how to embody that.

This sacred medicine has been used for centuries in indigenous rituals to facilitate deep transformation, spiritual insight, and emotional healing. Ayahuasca creates a deepened connection to your emotions that facilitates healing of trauma, provides profound spiritual insights and a broader understanding of oneself and the universe, and can help relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety, among many other benefits.

Jurema / Xanga / Changa Ceremony

We also offer Jurema / Changa / Xanga ceremonies throughout the year. Jurema or Changa is seen as the huntress and guardian of the forest. With her swift arrow, she pierces through the darkness and brings forth the light. She helps to release traumas, heal parts of ourselves, release old patterns, receive beautiful visions and insights, illuminates parts of ourselves that need shifting, strengthens our relationships, brings deep connection to Spirit and the Forest, and ultimately brings forth more joy and magick in our lives!

Frequently Asked Questions about Huachuma / Wachuma / San Pedro…

What is the effect of the San Pedro ceremony?

Known as “the cactus of vision,” San Pedro holds the potential to help you break through barriers, reconnect with your soul’s truth, and step fully, powerfully into your authentic self.  Huachuma also spelt Wachuma, a sacred plant medicine of the heart, gently guides you to explore your shadow, your patterns, and the parts of yourself that have been hidden or forgotten.

Participants often describe profound emotional, spiritual, and mental clarity. There’s a heightened connection to the natural world, as if the plants, the wind, and the stars are whispering their wisdom directly to you. It’s not uncommon to feel a deep sense of peace, gratitude and purpose that lingers long after the ceremony ends.

What is the difference between Ayahuasca and San Pedro?

Ayahuasca is often seen as having a strong, nurturing, feminine energy—like that of a grandmother. On the other hand, San Pedro carries the calm, grounded energy of a wise and gentle grandfather. While Ayahuasca takes you on a deep inner journey to explore the universe within yourself, San Pedro is more outward-focused, helping you connect with your multidimensional nature.

Even though their effects and healing approaches are different, Ayahuasca and San Pedro work beautifully together, especially during a multi-day retreat with a few day break in between ceremonies.

Ayahuasca offers deep insights into yourself—your challenges, struggles, and what needs to change. San Pedro, on the other hand, opens your heart to love and peace, connecting you with everything and everyone around you. It also gives you the strength to make those needed changes in your life.

How can San Pedro act as a supplement to Ayahuasca?

San Pedro beautifully complements Ayahuasca ceremonies. If Ayahuasca feels like a teacher dismantling old ways of being, then San Pedro is the supportive healer, helping to stabilize and ground you in your new truths. Together, these ceremonies create a complete cycle of transformation, balancing intense release with restorative clarity.

We offer combined Ayahuasca and San Pedro retreats so you can feel the interplay and profound insights of these two sacred plant spirits working together.

How does San Pedro work?

San Pedro is rich with mescaline, a psychoactive compound renowned for opening pathways to deep emotional and spiritual states. Unlike other psychedelics, its effects are lasting but not overwhelming—like a gentle, steady drumbeat rather than a cacophony.

Throughout the ceremony, you’ll feel an energetic softening—a surrender to higher consciousness. While visions may occur, they are often more symbolic and intuitive than overwhelming. The plant’s intelligence works with your body and soul to unveil the wisdom you already carry within you.

For whom is San Pedro NOT suitable?

While San Pedro holds profound healing potential, it is not suitable for everyone. Here are those who should tread carefully—or avoid it altogether:

    • People on Antidepressants or Medications containing Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOIs) or Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs): The interaction between San Pedro and certain medications can be dangerous. If you take antidepressants (you should stop taking them 4-8 weeks before your ceremony).
    • If you suffer from: schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychosis, borderline or certain other mental disorders.
    • If you have or have had any of the following illnesses or conditions: severe kidney disease, unstable diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, severe neurological disorders, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases such as angina pectoris, strokes and CVAs, an existing or expected pheochromocytoma (a tumour of the adrenal glands), blood dyscrasias (abnormal cells), hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland) and certain liver disorders.
    • If you take painkillers, sleeping pills or products for migraines and allergies (you should stop taking them 3 to 6 days before your ceremony).

If this is your first time sitting in a San Pedro ceremony then please contact us if you have any questions and to make sure the ceremony is a good fit for you.

What to avoid before Huachuma / Wachuma / San Pedro?

Preparing for an Huachuma / Wachuma / San Pedro cactus ceremony will make sure your energy and physical vessel are as clear as possible to fully receive the medicine’s wisdom and healing. Please refrain engaging with these substances on ceremony day and it can be beneficial to remove these in the days leading up to your ceremony.

Here are some things to avoid as part of your preparation for the san pedro plant medicine ceremony:

      • Pharmaceuticals & Medications: Please consult with us about any you are taking prior to joining the ceremony. These may require a longer detox or be  reason to not join the ceremony as the interaction between San Pedro and certain medications can be dangerous.

Huachuma / Wachuma / San Pedro Ceremony Diet?

Your diet is also an integral part of your preparation. A clean body helps ensure you are energetically, emotionally, and physically ready for the experience. Here’s what to avoid on ceremony day and it can be beneficial to to remove this food from your diet in the days leading up to your ceremony.

      • Red Meat: Heavier to digest and can weigh down your energy.
      • Fermented Foods: Minimize these as they may interact negatively with San Pedro’ss components.
